Abstract

The proposed project would add a two-way center turn lane, 2.4 km/1.5 miles in length, to SR 36 in Thomaston, Georgia. The project would extend north from Upson Elementary School Drive/CR 206 to Moore's Crossing Road/CR 424 and would principally serve traffic into and out of the Thomaston Industrial Park and the Upson County Consolidated School. The present two-lane facility is inadequate to accommodate turning and through traffic along the corridor. Additionally, the project would provide right turn lanes along the same section of SR 36 at the intersections of Upson Elementary School Drive, Old Yatesville Road and Trice Cemetery Road. The proposed project would consist of the construction of a turning lane and the partial reconstruction of SR 36 in Thomaston. The project would begin approximately 80.8 m/265 ft west of the present entrance to the Thomaston-Upson Industrial Park, proceed east terminating at a location approximately 239.4 m/785 ft east of the intersection of Moore's Crossing Road/CR 424 with SR 36. The entrance to the industrial park would be relocated approximately 190.6 m/625 ft east of its present location. Existing right-of-way is 24.4 m/80 ft. Proposed right-of-way varies from 30.5 m/100 ft to 48.8 m/160 ft. Total project length would be 2.4 km/1.5 miles.
