Abstract

A cultural resource assessment survey was conducted of the proposed ECI Tap 46 KV Transmission Line and proposed ECI 46/25 KV Substation, Emanuel County, Georgia in April 1994. The archaeological assessment investigation included a pedestrian survey over the entire length of the corridor and the substation location combined with shovel test sampling (30 m interval) at seven archaeological probability areas. This report describes the environmental and cultural setting of the project vicinity, provides a review of previous archaeological research in the area, and discusses the methods and results of the investigation. Because no documented or previously unrecorded archaeological or historic sites were encountered within the project area during the survey, it is recommended that the proposed project proceed as planned.
