Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey of the proposed Ellabelle substation in Bryan County, Georgia was conducted by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. under contract with Oglethorpe Power Corporation. The area of potential effect includes a 1.5 ha (3.6 acre) tract, located on State Route 30 just north of Lanier and the view-shed around the tract. The survey resulted in locating one artifact occurrence and no new archeological sites. The artifact occurrence is a single chert flake found on the ground surface. No houses in the vicinity of the survey area were older than 50 years; therefore, none are eligible to the National Register of Historic Places. Since no historic properties were identified in the area of potential effect, no additional archeological or historical investigations are warranted and construction should be allowed to proceed.
