Abstract

I-75-1(78), Tift County; In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of

1966 the above project was surveyed for archaeological sites that could be considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Survey methods included an examination of aerial photographs and topographic maps prior to an actual walk through of the proposed right-of-way. The in-field survey did not locate any sites. The area has been extensively disturbed by past road-building activities associated with I-75. Subsurface shovel tests were dug at random intervals in an effort to locate buried sites; which also met with negative results. Consequently, since no archaeological sites were found by these methods, there should not be any adverse effects to the State’s early cultural resources.
