Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-OOOE(225), Polk County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would consist of the construction of a box culvert beneath SR 6/US 278/Rockmart Bypass to accommodate the Silver Comet Trail. The culvert would measure approximately 150ft in length and approximately 10ft in width and would be located at MP 12.03. Existing right-of-way is approximately 200 ft. No additional right-of-way would be required for the completion of the proposed project. Existing right-of-way is approximately 68 ft. Additional required right-of-way would vary to a maximum of 115ft. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor.
