Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project CM- OOTS (32), DeKalb County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project’s area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of upgrading existing equipment and interconnecting them with fiber-optic cable at five signalized intersections along Chamblee Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. This includes a closed loop signal system with monitoring capabilities and system options for improved traffic flow to enhance continuity and congestion reduction.

The proposed project on Chamblee Dunwoody Road begins at Ashford Center Parkway / Womack Road and continues northerly to Roberts Drive for a total length of 1.97 km (1.23 m). All construction is limited to within the existing right- of-way and no subsurface disturbance will occur in the project area. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire project corridor.
