Project IM-285-1(374), DeKalb County: Determination of No Undertaking. The subject project would consist of the replacement of all mainline signs on Interstate 285 from Glenwood Road to Interstate 85. The new signs would have high intensity backgrounds. New overhead structures would be required. While some earthwork may be involved in the removal and replacement of the overhead structures, these areas have been disturbed previously with the construction of the interstate highway and the installation of the existing structures. No acquisition of additional right-of-way or construction would be required to implement the project. According to 36 CFR 800. 2(0), an "undertaking" consists of "any project, activity, or program that can result in changes in the character or use of historic properties, if any such properties are located within the proposed project's area of potential effects." This project does not have the potential to result in changes to the character or use of any historic properties, therefore, the subject project does not constitute an undertaking. This finding fulfills the Department's requirements under Section 106.
