Abstract

Project STP-074-1(43), Harris County: Proposed Paving of Shoulders Along SR 85 Alternate from MP 0.28 to the Talbot County Line; the proposed project consists of the paving of shoulders along SR 85 Alternate from MP 0.28 to the Talbot County Line (please see attached map). Total project distance would be 5.9 kilometers (3.7 miles). The existing two-lane facility would have an additional 0.6 meter (2 feet) of pavement put down along the right and left shoulders. All proposed activity would occur within existing right-of-way. The corridor passes through mostly sparsely developed rural residential areas and rural agricultural areas and the small town of Shiloh. The majority of houses along the corridor are modern and few pre-World War II dwellings are to be found, except in Shiloh. The area of potential effect for this project is considered to be limited to the existing right-of-way, within which all proposed activity would occur. This project does not have the potential to visually affect any eligible resources located outside the existing right-of-way because no slopes would be changed and all paving would be done at existing grade.
