Abstract

Project M-1423(1), Laurens County: this transportation project has been surveyed for historic resources in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto. The project consists of relocating S.R. 31 (U.S. 319 and 441) on new location from the Seaboard Coastline and W & T railroad tracks to Jefferson Street (S.R. 19) for a distance of 0.2 miles. The project design configuration will consist of two 12' travel lanes in each direction, separated by a 14' two-way left turn lane, plus curb and gutter. Eighty-six feet of right-of-way will be required for project implementation. The survey boundaries and methodology were established using the GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resources Guidelines. These guidelines were established as a result of past interaction with the SHPO and her staff and were agreed upon the Federal Highway Administration and the State Historic Preservation Officer.
