Abstract

GDOT proposes to replace the two bridges that carry 1-85 over Ridgeway Church Road, which are located approximately 1.3 miles southwest of the l-851nterchange with U.S. Route 441 and 3.3 miles outside of the city or Commerce. The existing bridge that carries the northbound travel lanes was constructed in 1963 and then reconstructed in 1985. The existing bridge that carries the southbound travel lanes was constructed in 1963 and then reconstructed in 1985. Both bridges consist of three (3) spans of concrete Tee-beams. The structural analysis showed a lower than expected carrying capacity in the substructure of both bridges. The northbound bridge has a sufficiency rating of 77.9, while the southbound bridge has a sufficiency rating of 75.2. The proposed bridge will be 158-foot long with two (2) 40-foot spans and one (1) 78-foot span. Total width is 139.25-foot including four 12-foot travel lanes, 12-toot outside shoulders and 64-foot median with a center barrier. The current northbound bridge is 105-foot long, 45.2-root wide deck with two 12-foot lanes, 1 O-root outside shoulder and a-root inside shoulder. The southbound bridge is 114-foot long, 45-foot wide deck with two 12-foot lanes, 1 0-foot outside shoulder and 8-foot inside shoulder. The existing and proposed right-of-way (ROW) width is 330-400 feet.
