Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project FR-036-1(13), Coffee County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed project would widen S.R. 32 and provide one-way pairs through the central business district of Douglas. The project as proposed would begin at the west city limits of Douglas then would extend easterly along S.R. 32 to S.R. 206/East Douglas Bypass. As part of the proposed project connectors on new location would be required between Chester Avenue and South Wheeler Avenue and between South Gaskin Avenue and S.R. 32. Required rights-of-way for the proposed connectors would be approximately 60 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed rights-of-way was surveyed for the entire 2.4 mile length of the project corridor.
