Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB-071(8), Colquitt County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The bridges over the Little Ochlocknee River on Co. Rd. 222 will be replaced. The project will begin 2500 feet west of the western channel of the river within the existing right-of-way. Approximately 2000 feet west of that channel, the proposed centerline will veer north of existing, rejoining the existing centerline at the Co. Rd. 222/Co. Rd. 13 intersection, thereby straightening two curves in the west approach. The proposed centerline will cross the western river channel on existing, then will cross the middle and eastern channels slightly south of the existing bridges, and will re-cross the existing centerline between the river and the Co. Rd. 222/Co. Rd. 223 intersection. The centerline will rejoin the existing corridor 2000 feet east of the eastern river channel. An 80 foot corridor is required for the length of the project.
