Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-054-1(53), Walton County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would widen SR 81 from approximately 226 meters (740 feet) south of the SR 81/CR 453 intersection to a point approximately 226 meters (740 feet) north of CR 453. The existing right-of-way varies from approximately 24.4 to 18.3 meters (60 to 80 feet). The proposed required right-of-way would vary from an additional 12.2 to 18.3 meters (40 to 60 feet). The proposed project length is approximately 0.452 kilometer (0.28 mile). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
