Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp., has completed a Phase IA archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Thomson, McDuffie County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located southwest of Dusty Lane at 33°37'36.3" N, 82°28'45.5" W as seen on the USGS 7.5' Woodlawn, GA, topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area is within a pine planted parcel and partial clearing and consists of a 100-ft by 100-ft area for a proposed telecommunications tower and an access easement to the east-northeast, although a larger footprint was surveyed because the tower location was not firm at the time of fieldwork (Figure 3). An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on April 1, 2019 by qualified professional archaeologist Eric Sanchez, Indiana University 2008, under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist, and required 3 hours of fieldwork. This report details the results of the records check and Phase IA field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
