Abstract

R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a cultural resources assessment for Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed Ebenezer Road 115 kV transmission line. The cultural resources assessment was performed to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area and assess resource significance based on National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria [36 CFR Part 60.4(d)]. The project area is located in Fayette County, east of Peachtree City. The transmission line is 30 meters wide and approximately 4.0 kilometers in length. Previous investigations in the upper study area (e.g., Webb 1983, 1988a, 1988b, 1989; Wheaton and Collins 1981; Ledbetter et al 1987; Gresham 1987; Elliott 1988) have identified prehistoric resources dating to the Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian and historic periods. Archival research was conducted on September 1 and 2, 1994 and included a literature/records search. A review of pertinent National Register files, historic structures files and archeological site files revealed that no National Register resources or known archeological sites are located within the project area. However, several historic structures are located within the project area and have been evaluated by Historic Preservation Consulting, Inc. A review of historic maps shows several 19th and Early 20th century structures located in or near the project area. A field survey of the project area was conducted on September 12 and 13, 1994 and six archeological sites were identified.
