Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project CM-0000-00(675), Fulton County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)". The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would consist of approximately 1.12 miles of improvements along Buffington Road between Flat Shoals Road and the 1-85 overpass near Old Bill Cook Road (see attached location map). The proposed improvements would include the addition of curb & gutter with sidewalk on the east side and the addition of curb and gutter with a multi-use sidewalk/bike path on the west side. Also included are the construction of drainage to accommodate the run off from the curb and gutter and the reconstruction of numerous driveways along Buffington Road. The proposed project also would provide for improvements at the intersection of Buffington Road and Old Bill Cook Road. The intersection improvements would consist of the addition of an exclusive westbound right turn lane along Old Bill Cook Road onto Buffington Road and the addition of one dedicated southbound left turn lane, one dedicated southbound right turn lane and one through lane along Buffington Road onto Flat Shoals Road. Existing right-of-way varies from approximately 60 to 100 feet. There would be minor right-of-way acquisition required along Buffington Road near the intersection with Flat Shoals Road. The proposed project also would require the use of easements along Buffington Road.
