Abstract

The proposed project consists of the transfer of a surplus property parcel currently owned by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The GDOT Right-Of-Way (ROW) office is interested in selling this parcel, and environmental surveys, including Archaeological, are required in advance of ownership transfer. In 2013 GDOT took steps toward selling a 15.67 acre portion of this parcel under PM 1371, and an Archaeological Survey was conducted to facilitate this potential sale (McKay 2013). The parcel portion, however, was not purchase at that time. Now GDOT is attempting to sell the parcel once again, but has added an additional 1.74 acres of adjacent land, so that the entire parcel will be available for sale. The parcel is identified as GEP 319-028, PM 3656, and is located approximately 5.5 miles north of the town of McIntyre, in Wilkinson County, Georgia. It is situated along the western side of US-441/State Route (SR) 29, just north of the intersection with Macedonia Church Road (Figure 1). The previously surveyed area was 15.67 acres in size, and the newly added area is 1.74 acres, for a total parcel area of 17.41 acres.
