Abstract

Archaeological survey of the proposed Bully Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and Forced Main, Jeff Davis County, Georgia, was conducted in April 1990 by Brockington and Associates, Inc. The 4.7 mile line and the 5.D acre plant site were investigated through 30 m interval shovel testing in areas undisturbed by quarrying or road improvement (1.4 miles), and by judgmental surface survey in other areas (3.3 miles). In addition, the Georgia State Site Files were examined to determine if previously recorded sites were present. Two previously recorded sites, 9JD18 and 9JDl9, were revisited, and two isolated finds were discovered. Both sites were characterized by poor integrity, low clarity, moderate to low artifact frequencies and diversities, and unspectacular environmental settings. Accordingly, they are recommended as ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. No further archaeological work is recommended for the project as planned.
