Abstract

This is the archaeological assessment of a district 4 resurfacing project. The proposed project would consist of the 2-foot widening, single surface treatment, resurfacing, shoulder building, and permanent markings on SR 122 from Union Road to Pafford Street in Lanier and Lowndes Counties. All work will be completed within the existing right-of-way. Consultation with the National Park Service and an on-site visit to the Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge was undertaken in order to assess the potential effect of this project on archaeological site 9LN7, the boundary of which lies just south of SR 122. The site visits determined that the project as described would not affect the archaeological site based on the presence of a large ditch, in which all project related activities would take place, separating the road from the site boundary.
