Abstract

Between July 13 and 16, 1998, the Coosawattee Foundation conducted a preliminary archaeological reconnaissance of Ichauway Plantation in Baker County, Georgia. With the considerable aid of Ichauway director Dr. Lindsay Boring and many of his staff, Foundation president James B. Langford, Jr. and archaeologist Dr. John Worth conducted informal interviews and artifact identification sessions with Ichauway staff and other local residents who possessed knowledge of the archaeological sites in the area, and additionally visited a number of specific locations within the Plantation for purposes of visual inspection and additional artifact collection. The following report summarizes the preliminary findings based on this visit, including an overview of local prehistory as well as a description of both the methodology and results of the July survey.
