Abstract

The proposed project is an intersection improvement project located in the southwest corner of Cobb County along the county line with Paulding County (Figure 1). Burnt Hickory Road runs along the county line here. Brownsville Extension and Stout Parkway previously met Burnt Hickory Road at two offset intersections and were re-aligned to operate as a two-way stop. Recent accidents at this intersection have accelerated the need for improvements. In the interim, an all-way stop has been installed to help the safety and operation of the intersection. A roundabout with an inscribed circle diameter of 108 feet (ft) (32.92 meters [m]) is the preferred solution at this intersection. The roundabout will reduce impacts to surrounding properties by utilizing a circulatory width of 17 ft (5.2 m) and 12-foot (3.66-meter) truck apron. Utility impacts have also been reduced by shifting the roundabout slightly to avoid a high-cost utility pole.
