Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the proposed realignment of Lithonia Industrial Boulevard in DeKalb County, Georgia on March 22, 2007. The survey area consisted of a corridor with a 68-foot right-of-way approximately 6,200 feet in length extending from Rogers Lake Road east to Rock Chapel Road. The entire corridor was located north of the City of Lithonia and south of the East Dekalb Landfill. One archaeological site was identified during the survey. Based on the site's poor contextual integrity and general paucity of historic period artifacts the site is not considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, the project as currently proposed does not appear to directly impact a previously recorded site. However, should the project area change and the site be threatened, additional evaluation would be needed to determine whether it is eligible for the National Register. No further archaeological work is recommended.
