Abstract

On October 25, 2001, staff archaeologists from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) conducted an archaeological survey for the extension of the double culverts on SR 17/75 at Andrew's Creek in White County, Georgia. The existing double culverts at Andrew's Creek on SR 17/75 are located within the Chattahoochee National Forest. The survey was conducted in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act of 1991. The goals of the survey were to locate, document, and assess archaeological resources which may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the Georgia Register of Historic Places (GRHP) located within the proposed project's area of potential effect (APE). No archaeological resources were identified within the project area. Therefore, it is concluded that implementation of the proposed GDOT project to extend the double culverts at Andrew's Creek, White County, will not affect archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion on the NRHP or the GRHP, provided that the project conforms to the present design concept.
