Abstract

Project F-003-1(9) is the proposed widening and improvement of Bankhead Highway (U.S. 278/S.R. 8) beginning at the 1-285 interchange and proceeding west along Bankhead Highway to and including improvements and widening of the bridge over the Chattahoochee River (see Figure 1). Intersection improvements at Bolton Road and Fulton Industrial Boulevard are also part of the project.

In accordance with paragraph 6a of FHPM 7-7-2, dealing with logical termini, a portion of Cobb County project C0007 is included as part of this study (see Figure 1). The project will ultimately be the widening and improvement of Bankhead Highway to the Douglas County line (8. 7 mi 1 es). However, only the portion between the Chattahoochee River west to Gordon Road (4. 5 mil es) is included within this proposed project's (presented in this report) logical termini. This section will vary from three 1anes between the river and Cooper Lake Road to four 1anes between Cooper Lake Road and Gordon Road. Both sections will be widened symmetrically and have a 14-foot center turn lane. Existing right-of-way is 60 feet with a proposed right-of-way of approximately 80 feet.
