Phase I Archaeological Survey for the SR 136@ Toto Creek Bridge (No. 085-0019-0) Replacement, Dawson County, Georgia

Abstract

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) P.1. No. 0013990 would replace the existing State Route (SR) 136 bridge over Toto Creek/Lake Lanier located approximately 7.6 miles southeast of the City of Dawsonville. The existing bridge is 272 feet long and has a total deck width of 26.8 feet. The bridge consists of two 10-foot wide travel lanes with 1-foot wide shoulders on each side. Currently, SR 136 consists of two l 0-foot wide travel lanes with 2-foot wide paved shoulders. There is an unsignalized intersection at SR 136 and Henry Grady Highway/ Toto Creek Park Road located north of the existing bridge. There are no sidewalk or bicycle lanes on the existing bridge or along SR 136, Henry Grady Highway, and Toto Creek Park Road. Toto Creek Park is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Is located northeast of the existing bridge with SR 136 and Toto Creek Park Road forming the park boundaries. The existing bridge will be closed during construction, and the proposed bridge will be reconstructed in the current location. The replacement bridge will be 285 feet long with three 95-foot spans and a total deck width of 43.25 feet. The new bridge will include two 12-foot wide travel lanes and 8-foot wide outside shoulders on each side of the bridge. The roadway approaches will be reconstructed to tie into the existing roadway on both sides of the proposed bridge. The proposed roadway would include two 12-foot wide travel lanes and 10-foot wide outside shoulders with 4 feet paved on each side. A local detour would be provided with all nearby roads remaining open during construction. The total project length is approximately .1 mile.
