Abstract

A cultural resources survey was conducted in Lamar County, Georgia, by Garrow & Associates, Inc. of Atlanta for Raytheon Service Company. The goals of the survey were to identify any prehistoric or historic sites within the survey tract and to delineate the boundaries of the Old Settle Cemetery, located on the southeastern perimeter. The results of the survey indicate an absence of prehistoric and historic sites within the immediate project area. Several prehistoric lithic scatters, found along eroded ridge tops, are recommended ineligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Investigation of the boundaries of the cemetery indicates that it is contained within the present-day fence line. The presence of a historic structure outside of the southeastern boundary of the project area is confirmed. Further archaeological investigations within the project area are not recommended, based upon the results of this survey.
