Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project NH- 002-6(46), Ware County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of the widening of SR 4 Business / US 1 from just north of Blackshear Avenue in the city of Waycross northerly to Airport Road (CR 465) for a total distance of approximately 3.06 km (1.9 mi). In addition, the existing bridge over Kettle Creek would be widened. The existing right-of-way for the SR 4 Business/US 1 is a variable 18.29 to 30.48 m (60 to 100 ft). The total proposed right-of- way would be a variable 24. 38 to 42. 67 m (80 to 140 ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was conducted for the entire project area.
