Abstract

In compliance with Section l 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-BRS-0692(25), Haralson County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would replace the functionally obsolete and structurally deficient bridge on SR 100 over Walker Creek approximately 3 miles south of Tallapoosa, Georgia. The project would begin approximately 1000 feet south of the existing bridge and continue to approximately 1100 feet north of the bridge. Total length of the project is approximately 0.43 mile. Existing right-of-way is 100 feet. Additional required right-of-way would include a maximum of approximately 45 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
