Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRSLB-2762 (3), Toombs County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project BRSLB-2762 (3) would replace the structurally deficient bridge on CR 364 over Williams Creek in Toombs County. The proposed project would begin approximately 340 meters (1,115 feet) west of the existing bridge structure over Williams Creek then continue easterly to an end point at US 1/ SR 15. The existing right-of-way on CR 364 is 18.3 meters (60 feet), while the additional required right-of-way would be a maximum of approximately 25 meters (82 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the proposed project corridor.
