Abstract

Project Description: The proposed project would consist of the Northeast Monticello Bypass from the intersection of State Route (SR) 16 north to SR 83 in Jasper County, Georgia. The proposed typical section would be comprised of one 12-foot travel lane in each direction with 10-foot grassed shoulders.

The project is primarily on new location with tie-ins to SR16, CR 363, and SR 83. The proposed right-of-way (ROW) would vary from 120 feet to 200 feet wide. The project was originally surveyed in 1999 for archaeological resources by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Changes to the project have occurred since the original archaeological assessment. Two GDOT reevaluation surveys were completed in May 2006 and December 2007 to account for changes in alignment and require ROW additions. In 2012, GDOT surveyed additional small amounts of easements, required ROW, and side road tie-ins. Since that time, roundabouts requiring additional ROW at the intersections with SR 16 and SR 83 and additional easements have been added to the project. Area of Potential Effect: The addendum Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this survey consists new areas of easements and required ROW not covered by previous survey. No extended survey corridor (ESC) was required for this project.
