Abstract

In July of 2017, VHB conducted a Phase I archaeological survey along a section of State Route (SR) 81 located in Henry County, Georgia (PI No. 0015089). The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) proposes to widen and improve SR 81 in the City of McDonough from approximately 0.17-miles east of Lemon Street to 0.17 miles east of Bethany Road. The project proposes to widen the existing SR 81 corridor segment from a two-lane facility to a four-lane roadway with a 20-foot raised median, curb and gutter, ADA-compliant sidewalks and wheelchair ramps, and 4-foot designated bicycle facilities. In addition, this project proposes to improve all major intersections along the SR 81 corridor with updated pedestrian and vehicular traffic control devices. Left and right turn lanes along with other improvements would be included where warranted at all intersections. Pedestrian and bicycle facilities would be added to create connectivity within the mixed-use SR 81 corridor. The western terminus of this project would connect to PI No. 321530, the SR 81 One Way Pair.
