Abstract

New South Associates of Stone Mountain, Georgia, conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey within the North River Causeway project corridor between April 6 and April 8, 1994. The purpose of this survey was to examine the portion of previously recorded site 9CM192/193 that was located within the corridor, to document all unrecorded archaeological sites and historic structures within the proposed 100 ft (30 m) wide right-of-way, and to make preliminary recommendations concerning the eligibility of all affected cultural resources for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The survey defined the southern portion of previously recorded sites 9CM192 and 193. These two sites are actually a single multicomponent historic and prehistoric site whose components were assigned separate state site numbers. The survey accurately defined the eastern and western site boundaries within the road widening corridor. The portion of site 9CM192/193 that is located within the project right-of-way appears to be disturbed and is not considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
