Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed 100-foot by 100-foot (30m by 30m) lease area and a proposed approximate 456-foot long by 30-foot wide (139m by 9m) access/utility easement. The subject site is located off Highway 53, Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist During our database research, we found six previously identified archaeological sites (9GO53, 9GO195, 9GO196, 9GO197, 9GO225, and 9GO363) and fourteen archaeological surveys (284, 2319, 2837, 3671, 3699, 3913, 4043, 4484, 7299, 7301, 7316, 7300, 7294, and 9808) within our standard 1-mile background research radius, but outside the APE for direct effects. No archaeological resources were encountered during our investigation (see attachment E-1c). Based on our findings, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.

We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.
