Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, Projects GIP-341 (23) and (25), Telfair County, have been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project's corridors. The proposed projects consist of the widening and reconstruction of SR 27/ US 341 from McRae to Lumber City. The existing right-of-way is 100 feet; required right-of-way varies between 130 feet and 190 feet. Project GIP-341(23), which begins at the intersection of the SR 27 Loop and US 341 southeast of McRae is 5.10 miles in length. Project GIP-341(25) begins just east of CR 197 and continues for an estimated 7.95 miles to the west City Limits of Lumber City. An archaeological survey consistent with the project's corridors was conducted.
