Abstract

In compliance with Section I 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRF-162-1 (16), Spalding County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)". The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project BRF-162-1 (16) would replace the structurally deficient bridge over Manley Creek on SR 92 in Spalding County. The proposed project would begin approximately 656 feet west and end approximately 656 feet east of the existing SR 92 bridge over Manley Creek. This project was originally surveyed and cleared by Eric Duff in January, 1995. Two subsequent reevaluations, also performed by Eric Duff, were cleared for archaeological resources in September of 1995 and February of 1999. Since then, a temporary easement has been added to the proposed project on the north side of SR 92. The dimensions of the proposed temporary easement are approximately 295 x 131 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted within the entire expanse of the temporary easement.
