Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The proposed undertaking would include a proposed approximate 60-foot long by 60-foot wide (18-meter by 18-meter) lease area that would include a 1999-foot overall height monopole telecommunications structure and associated ground-level equipment and proposed 506-foot long by 30-foot wide (154-meter by 9-meter) access/utility easement, which would include a proposed approximate 60-foot long by 30-foot wide (18-meter by 9-meter) turnaround easement. The proposed undertaking would also include an approximate 384-foot long by 30-foot wide (117-meter by 9-meter) utility easement. The subject site is located at 2905 SW Turner Road, Lithonia, Rockdale County, Georgia.

This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. During our database research, we identified 31 previously recorded archaeological sites (9RO46, 9RO47, 9RO48, 9RO49, 9RO50, 9DA303, 9DA314, 9DA315, 9DA316, 9DA317, 9DA319, 9DA320, 9DA321, 9DA322, 9DA324, 9DA325, 9DA327, 9DA328, 9DA329, 9DA330, 9DA331, 9DA332, 9DA333, 9DA334, 9DA335, 9DA427, 9DA437, 9DA438, 9DA439, and 9DA462) and seven survey reports (929, 3775, 3790, 3974, 4132, 5571, and 8226) within our standard 1-mile background research radius. The proposed undertaking is located within the boundaries of on one archaeological survey (929), but no archaeological sites were defined. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered.

We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.
