Abstract

In compliance with Section I 06 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-0002-00(019), Walton County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)". The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. Project STP-0002-00(019) would widen both SR 81 and CR 88, at their intersection, to provide each with a left tum lane. The proposed project would also construct eastbound right tum lanes for both SR 81 and CR 88. The left tum lanes would be east and westbound at the SR 81 /CR 88 intersection. The existing right-of-way for SR 81 is 100 feet, while the existing right-of way for CR 88 is approximately 70 feet. A maximum of an additional 1O feet will be needed for required right-of-way on SR 81. A maximum of 20 additional feet will be needed for required right-of-way on CR 88. The length for the proposed project is 0.44 mile. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.
