Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Project PI No. 0014896 would replace the bridge on County Road (CR) 742/Bass Road over the Norfolk-Southern Railroad in Bibb County, Georgia. The structure was constructed in 1938 and is located approximately two miles west of the City of Macon. The existing bridge has been assigned a sufficiency rating of 34.4 and is considered to be structurally deficient. The concrete structure has a posted speed limit of 45 miles-per-hour and a 21-foot 10-inch clearance under the structure for the railroad beneath. The existing typical section along the roadway consists of one 12-foot travel lane in each direction, and 6-foot outside shoulders. The project is in a preliminary concept phase and the proposed typical section has not yet been determined. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 50 feet (ft) in both directions from the centerline, and the proposed ROW would be determined as project plans develop.
