Abstract

The proposed project would improve the intersection of Chapel Hill Road at Anneewakee Road/Dorsett Shoals Road in Douglas County. The proposed project would realign the intersection on new alignment north of the existing intersection and would widen all approaches to include exclusive 12-foot left and right turn lanes and 12-foot through lanes, one in each direction. The project would also add curb and gutter, sidewalks along the northeast quadrant of the intersection, and 10-foot grassed shoulders. The project would also update the existing traffic signal and construct four traffic islands, one in each quadrant of the intersection, for traffic separation and pedestrian refuge. The proposed project length along Chapel Hill Road is approximately 2,391 feet and 2,491 feet along Anneewakee Road/Dorsett Shoals Road. Total project length is approximately 4,882 feet (0.92 mile). The existing Chapel Hill Road has two 12-foot travel lanes with exclusive right turn lanes and variable width grassed shoulders. The existing right-of-way is approximately 90 feet. The proposed right-of-way would range from 90 to 110 feet. The existing Anneewakee Road contains two 12-foot travel lanes with variable width grassed shoulders and an exclusive right-turn lane. The existing right-of-way is approximately 70 feet and the proposed right-of-way would range from 70 to 85 feet. The existing Dorsett Shoals Road contains two 12-foot travel lanes with variable width grassed shoulders. The existing right-of-way is approximately 50 feet and the proposed right-of-way would range from 50 to 85 feet.
