Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation is in the beginning stages of project development for the above noted projects. The projects consist of shoulder paving, 0.60 meter/2 feet left and right of SR 199 beginning at SR 56 and ending at the Treutlen county line, and SR 292 beginning at SR 15 and ending at the Toombs county line (see attached maps). The shoulder pavings would occur in areas where curb and gutter do not currently exist. Total project lengths are 8.1 kilometers/5.0 miles and 3.0 kilometers/1.9 miles, respectively. All proposed activity would occur within existing rights-of-way.

The area of potential effect for the projects is limited to the existing rights-of-way, within which all proposed activity would occur. Because no slopes would be changed and all paving would be done at existing grade, the projects do not have the potential to visually affect any eligible resources located outside the existing rights-of-way. As a result of in-house historic and archaeological research, no properties considered eligible for inclusion or listed in the National Register were identified within the proposed projects' area of potential environmental effect. The designs for the projects are being developed concurrently with environmental documentation and in compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations. This process, developed by the GDOT to make our projects responsive to historic and archaeological concerns, offers you the opportunity to identify specific sites to be addressed in the environmental assessment.
