Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project NH-985-1 (345), Hall County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would modify the existing I - 985/SR 11 interchange by removing the existing loop r amp on the south side of SR 11 and placing two ramps and two loop ramps on the north side of SR 11 at I-985. Additionally, SR 11 would be widened from Ridge Road to Monroe Drive. The existing right-of-way for SR 11 varies from approximately 25 m to 91 m (80 ft to 300 Et). The existing right-of-way for I-985 varies with the minimum being approximately 91 m (300 ft). The total project length would be approximately 2.0 km (1.25 mi). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of -way was conducted for the entire project area.
