Abstract

The project involves widening and improvements at a high hazard stream crossing over Little River west of Tifton on U.S. 82 - S.R. 50 (Fig. 1). The three bridges and approaches will be widened on the south side, requiring a maximum of 22 feet of additional right-of-way. In summary, the western half of the Little River floodplain within the project area was tested by six deep back-hoe tests spaced at 100-yard (91 meter) intervals. No cultural material or features were observed. The western edge of the floodplain on the first terrace was tested with a shallow trench 6 m. X 60 cm. X 40 cm. No cultural material or features were observed with the exception of a metal pipe of recent manufacture.
