Abstract

A phase I survey was conducted of a 100m. (350ft.) linear corridor running largely through the floodplain of the Little River on an old roadbed extending from the edge of the Little River due north then northwest. This project was conducted for the City of Woodstock that proposes to provide a minimum 10-foot-wide prefabricated pedestrian bridge over the Little River in Cherokee County, Georgia. The project area lies within an 184 acre tract leased by the City from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The entire project area has been severely impacted by road construction as well as extensive erosion due to use of the road by all-terrain vehicles. No archaeological sites were found during the current archaeological survey. Cypress Cultural Consultants recommends that the project be allowed to proceed as planned with all ground disturbance limited to the old roadbed of Rope Mill Road.
