Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) proposes to replace the Hudson River bridge on SR 59, in Banks County, Georgia (PI No. 0015533). The existing bridge will be dismantled, and a new bridge will be constructed on existing alignment. An offsite detour will be implemented while the bridge is under construction. New South Associates, Inc., conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the project’s Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB) to determine if it contains archaeological resources eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The ESB consists of a 2,480-foot segment of roadway that encompasses the new bridge locations and approach roads. The ESB varies from 300-500 feet in width.
