Abstract

Archaeology was conducted by Forest Service archaeologist Jack Wynn. He cleared the project concerning archaeology for Section 106 purposes in late 1994. Jack found no cultural resources on or eligible for the NRHP. I asked Jack for a copy of the archaeological report and a copy of SHPO's concurrence letter with his ·findings in early 1995--I never received this material. I called Jack on 11-6-95 and requested the same information noted above. As of 11-22-95, I still have not received this material. A DNR concurrence letter was received by this office on 11-21-95 concerning project FH-014 (1), Lumpkin County. Our receiving the memo was probably directly related to my last conversation with Jack (11-6-95). The DNR letter states that a field survey conducted by GDOT found no historic structural or archaeological resources on or eligible for the NRHP. Presumably, GDOT related these findings via Interdepartmental Memo to DNR dated 10-27-95. The archaeological section of GDOT has never conducted a field survey or related associated findings to DNR concerning the above project. All archaeology has been from the project's beginning, the responsibility of the Forest Service. If a copy of the archaeological findings for this project is needed, Jack Wynn of the Forest service will have to be contacted. GDOT archaeologists have not received and do not have a copy of these results.
