Abstract

On July 29, 1976 a meeting was called by the Environmental Protection Agency for all parties that are directly involved in the planning of the proposed route of construction of the Peachtree Creek Relief Sewer. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the environmental impact of the proposed route of construction, and to review any alternate routes that would appear less damaging to the environment.

A major area of concern was that section of the proposed route of construction that will run through Atlanta Memorial Park, which is the site of the “Georgia Bicentennial Forest" (described in a previous report by Ettman). At the outset of the meeting, it was decided that a more thorough investigation be made of the environmental impact that would be caused by routing the sewer through Atlanta Memorial Park. It was agreed that a tree survey, similar to the one previously prepared for part of the project (Tree Survey for the Upper Section -- Peachtree Creek Relief Sewer -- Project No. 37201), be made for the proposed route of construction through Atlanta Memorial Park. In addition, a valuation figure and replacement costs of the trees would be prepared by the Parks and Recreation Department, to better assess the impact of proposed construction in this area.  The purpose of this tree survey is to identify every tree in Atlanta Memorial Park that falls within the right of way of the proposed route of construction of the Peachtree Creek Relief Sewer. In addition, potential historic value of these trees if any, replacement costs, and recommendations are given.
