Abstract

The proposed project would begin approximately .4 mile south of I-16 and extend north to just south of County Road (CR) 585 (Burkhalter Road) in Bulloch County. The primary purpose of this project is to relieve congestion and improve conditions for traffic between Statesboro and I-16. For most of the project length, the existing two-lane roadway would be reconstructed to four lanes with a 32-foot-wide depressed median. The four travel lanes would consist of 12-foot outside lanes and 11-foot inside lanes. At four locations, a narrower five-lane section is proposed, consisting of 12-foot outside lanes, 11-foot inside lanes, and a 14-foot flush median that would function as a two-way left-turn lane. The five-lane section would enable the project to avoid impacts to commercial sites and historic properties in the community of Denmark as well as other historic properties and natural resources along the corridor. Most of the widening would occur along the east side of the existing roadway, shifting to the west side only to avoid specific resources located adjacent to the existing right-of-way (ROW). The existing ROW varies between 23 and 141 feet from either side of the existing SR 67.
