Abstract

Cardno, Inc. (Cardno) has completed an archaeological resources survey as a part of Kinder Morgan’s Georgia State Route (SR) 140/Adairsville Road, NE (hereafter SR 140) Pipeline Relocation Project, in Floyd County, Georgia (Figure 1). A portion of SR 140 in Floyd County will be widened by the Georgia Department of Transportation and a pipeline operated by Kinder Morgan crosses SR 140 where widening is planned. As presently designed the pipeline crossing of the road will need to be relocated in order to accommodate the proposed widening. Pipeline relocation will be completed by both horizontal bore and open cut. The adjustments may require the use of stopple bypass to keep the lines in service during the performance of the work. The slight relocation of the SR 140 pipeline crossing will require several small areas of temporary workspace (TWS) and new pipeline right-of-way (ROW). A total of seven areas of TWS and ROW were subjected to archaeological survey. The combined area of these seven areas of TWS and ROW totals 2,398.3 square meters (m2) and constitutes the Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this survey.
