Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey on August 4, 1998 of the proposed Northwest Parkway in Bibb County. The project corridor began at Hollingsworth Road and continued generally north on new location to the intersection of Napier Avenue and Park Street. The corridor then continued along Park Street until it ended at the intersection of Park Street and Forsyth Road. The corridor was approximately 3.37 kilometers (2.1 miles) in length and featured a 38.1 meter right-of-way along the new alignment and a 30 meter right-of-way along Park Street. In the course of the survey, an area of discarded headstones was discovered. This report contains only a discussion of the survey of the original right-of-way, a description of the additional work performed, and conclusions regarding the findings of the additional survey. The reader is referred to the original report for the prehistoric and historic overview. The Principal Investigator for this study was J. W. Joseph, Ph.D. The Field Director and report author was Theresa M. Hamby. Nancy Lorenz assisted in the field.
