Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed approximate 10-foot by 48-foot (3-meter by 15-meter) compound expansion area to an existing approximate 48-foot long by 48-foot wide (15-meter by 15-meter) telecommunications facility and a collocation of antennas on an existing 190-foot (overall height) monopole telecommunications tower. The subject site is located at 2045 Mars Hill Road, Acworth, Cobb County, Georgia. This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. During our database research, we found ten previously recorded archaeological sites (9CO68, 9CO69, 9CO70, 9CO181, 9CO182, 9CO241, 9CO244, 9CO290, 9CO291, and 9CO380) and eight archaeological survey reports (778, 911, 1734, 1972, 2998, 4766, 5963, and 6026) within 1-mile of the subject site. With the exception of survey 6026, all sites and surveys are located outside of the APE for direct effects. Survey 6026 consisted of a survey of the parent tract prior to the construction of the electrical transmission facility. The survey did not identify any archaeological sites within or near the project APE for direct effects. During the course of the Phase I intensive field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered and no archaeological sites were discovered. ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
